After the usual parade of hopefuls and and plain losers, Britain's Got Talent moves tonight, and all of this week, into its serious phase with the Semi Finals on Channel ITV1. Forty acts will be paraded (8 each night) in order to get 10 finalists, two acts from each night. It is always very exciting when the competition reaches this phase because this year's quality, in particular, is truly outstanding, not least for the singing juggernaut from Scotland, Susan Boyle. It is a little understandable if the other semi-finalists in tonight's round feel they have not a hope in hell of beating Boyle.
This unsuspecting and unassuming lady from Scotland has already been seen by over 200 million people worldwide on YouTube! A true international star already without making a single record. So much for the power of the Internet. However, she won't have it all her own way as she will really get a run for her money from her other seven rivals.
Tonight's perfomers in preference order:
Susan Boyle, singer, aged 48 from Blackburn, West Lothian: Appeal factor 9 - Winning Chance 1
Nothing much else can be said about this amazing singer and she will probably be just going through the motions. She has even been on Oprah Winfrey and Larry King already, yet the competition finalists haven't even been chosen yet. Whatever she does tonight she is already a star in her own right headed for great things, but it will be magical to see her perform!
Sue Son - violinist, aged 24, from London: Appeal factor 10 - Winning Chance 1
This is an amazing story. She came on stage to accompany a friend of hers on piano but the pair were voted down and she alone was selected by Simon Cowell instead. It has caused a massive rift between her and the friend who, apparently, has not spoken to her since! Such a shame because, if she were a true friend, she would wish Sue well for getting such a golden opportunity. But Sue is an absolute blitz with her violin so don't miss her! Wow.
Natalie Okri - singer, aged 10, South London: Appeal factor 9 - Winning Chance 2
What a little power house this lady is, a new Beyonce in the making! Very precocious with a wonderful voice. You're in for a treat.
Diversity - dance troupe aged 12-25, East London and Essex: Appeal factor 10 - Winning Chance 4
It's not easy for dance troupes because there are so many of them imitating each other. But this is an excellent dance group with some fantastic moves though I do not see them among the winners, sadly, with such a strong field.
Julia Naidenko - belly dancer, aged 24, London (via Latvia): Appeal factor 10 - Winning Chance 5
Julia had the judges salivating, especially Simon, and tripling their votes in the process! If they had their way Julia would be the winner already, especially for her body and boobs! But I don't think she'll progress beyond tonight.
Faces of Disco - comedy dance duo, aged 24 and 30, London - Appeal factor 9 - Winning Chance 6
Great act when you see it once, but doesn't have enough to carry it forward. The two guys are hot though!
Nick Hell- street performers, aged 26 and 34, Sunderland: Appeal factor 4 - Winning Chance 7
Not for the squeamish! This is a guy who puts coat hangers through his nose and swings wheelie bins from his ears. Gross. But some people like that stuff, I suppose. Can't see this going too far. Too uncomfortable to watch but the exposure will get him some gigs, I am sure.
Darth Jackson - Darth Vader/Michael Jackson impersonator, aged 37, Birmingham: Appeal factor 8 - Winning Chance 8
Nice costume and nice moves, but nothing too inspiring here. Should thrill the Star wars fans though.
TWO TIPPED FOR THE FINAL
1. Susan Boyle, singer
2. Sue Son, Violinist
